Cannes Lions Live 21-25 June
The International Festival of Creativity that normally floods Cannes with creative spirit again remains behind the screen in 2121.
Cannes Lions, the world's largest festival of creativity and advertising which, historically, takes place in Cannes the third week of June, was initailly confirmed to happen physically in its regular slot, but the lasting grip of the pandamic and the slow evolution of re-opening changed the plans.
After cancelling 2020’s edition to instead debut the digital version of the festival, LIONS LIVE, Philip Thomas, chairman of Lions, said: “Over the last year, we’ve been consulting with our customers and working on our plans, including the development of Cannes Lions Live as part of the new LIONS Membership platform. We are now able to move fully to this format for 2021 - which will have all the celebration, inspiration and participation of Cannes Lions - to unite the global community virtually during Cannes Lions Live this June.”
Last year, the awarding of the most creative and effective work in the world did not happen, as the online event only presented content, interviews and master classes. But this year, the famous Lion statues will be distributed among entries from mid-2019 to early 2021. According to Simon Cook, managing director, the return of the awards will also be accompanied by a strong programme of content, analysis and insight delivery.
This time around, the festival has introduced 'Lions Membership,' a platform that gives access to the digital events and several exclusive contents linked to Cannes Lions, including the complete library of award-winning work from the festival’s history. The annual Lions Membership is open to everyone, not just industry professionals and is priced at €249.
Cannes Lions Live will run from 21-25 June, with a programme of live and on-demand content, including 150+ films, and 40+ hours of pure creativity. It will also be the first-ever digitally broadcast Cannes Lions Awards livestreamed from Cannes, each day. Some of the heavy-weight talents leading talks include Reed Collins, CCO for Ogilvy APAC, Marc Pritchard, CBO of P&G, Samantha Almeida, head of Twitter Next and celebrites like Brandy, Gal Gadot and Formula 1 champion and autonomous car pioneer, Fernando Alonso.
