Nice's Hotel Negresco reopens after 6 months

The iconic 5-star hotel reopened on Thursday 6 May 2021 with delicious new menus coming to restaurants La Rotonde and Le Chantecler!

The Negresco now open c. D.R.

With its iconic sandy pink dome visible for miles along the coast, hotel Le Negresco is a striking landmark for the residents and visitors of Nice. Having been closed for 6 months due to the pandemic, it has opened its gilded doors once again this Thursday, 6 May.

The Negresco website greets guests with a warm message of hope. "From May 6, the happy sound of children laughing will fill the air again, we’ll be dazzled by the cameras, and the terraces from our suites will open up the skyline you like so much. We’re looking forward to seeing your faces light up with joy and delight and to tickling your taste buds once more."

Speaking of tickling taste buds, the hotel's two opulent restaurants, La Rotonde and Le Chantecler are preparing to open later this month and in June respectively. From Wednesday 19 May, guests will be able to taste Michelin-starred Chef Virginie Basselot's specially curated new room-service menu, with the option of sumptuous dishes from Le Chantecler or a luxury lunch box, enabling diners to indulge not just in their food but also in the stunning views of the French Riviera!

On the new gastronomic format, Virginie told Nice Matin, "I've taken on the spirit of La Rotonde for personalised room service. In addition, for the reopening of the restaurant, we're going to offer a lunch box at noon with dishes from La Rotonde, which customers can enjoy outside. We'll test it out, see how it works and make it a permanent arrangement if it's worth it."

Virginie also said that she made use of the lockdown to cook up her new recipe for success. "I took the opportunity to meet producers, breeders, fishermen, winegrowers and suppliers in Nice and the region. It's important to have a human relationship, to understand how these people work. It allowed us to reconsider our way of cooking."

Both of Le Negresco's restaurants are renowned in Nice for their ornate décor and exquisite dishes. Le Chantecler, the hotel's Michelin-starred restaurant, is famed for its flambéed meat, carved as delicately as the polished 18th-century woodwork of the walls within which it is served. Then, with its classic theme of gold and white, juxtaposed with the quaint touch of carousel horses, brasserie La Rotonde contributes a chic but relaxed space to the glamorous theatre-like character of the city's most treasured hotel.

We can't wait to return to sample Nice's finest cuisine and, as Hotel Negresco tells us, "All the staff at Le Negresco are genuinely happy to be seeing you again!"

It's not just the Negresco, several hotels have reopened this week, including the Hyatt Regency Palais de la Mediterranee just down the street and the Hotel Barriere Majestic in Cannes. With the new relaxation of rules, many more of our treasured hotels will be reopening in the coming days...stayed tuned!
