It is a well-established fact that regular exercise can help you lower the risk of many types of Cancer. To help you kick start this healthy habit this Spring, Mimosa, an association committed to the fight against cancer on the French Riviera, are launching a virtual, no-finish-line challenge entitled “Where in the World?”
From 10th to 25th April, coinciding with the new school holiday dates, Mimosa wants you to run, walk or cycle as many kilometres as you can and get everyone you know to sponsor your efforts. It is a win-win situation, you will be doing good while making yourself feel good; raising money in the fight against cancer all the while reducing your own risks of health problems.
The event’s online platform is being created by Zapsport, the connected challenge arm of Azur Sport, well known locally as the organisers of the Nice-Cannes marathon. Participants will be invited to download the free Zapsport application to track their kilometres and at the end of each day a virtual destination will be reached and shared on social media. “Where in the World?” hopes to help attract and motivate participation with a virtual travel element at a time when physical travel is so restricted. The cost of creating the event is being 100% funded by twelve local businesses (Christine Kjeldbjerg, dr cool.ac, English Osteopath, French Access, Haven Azur, Leonetti Business Services, Mirador Marketing Solutions, Rivieraklubben, SE Construction.Co, The Azur Collection, The Spectrum IFA Group, and Wretman Estate) meaning that all entry fees and sponsor money raised will go directly to the fight against Cancer in the local region.
As kids need exercise just like adults do, Mimosa has included a fixed goal challenge for primary age children with manual entry of kilometres so that all the family can participate and contribute to the distance travelled. Their aim is to encourage children to exercise daily, building good habits that will positively affect their health for a lifetime.
Mimosa are committed to educating and raising awareness of cancer prevention in the South of France as well as supporting cancer patients and their families. For the past seven years they have organised numerous fundraising events to support this cause, from gala dinners, to golf tournaments, marathon participations to kids fun runs, all of which have had to be cancelled in the last year. This has had a significant impact on their fundraising, and while they have been able to reinvent their strategy, this virtual challenge event will be an important one in their campaign for this year. Not only is this financially an important event but also it carries with it one of their principal key messages about cancer prevention: adopt healthy habits and keep fit and active.
