Monaco is renowned as a leader in tackling climate change, from its work in the oceans to fashion. Since 2016, sustainability has been showcased as on-trend and important with a Sustainability Contest for the principality's annual fashion week.

‘All green’ brands are invited to enter a short video no longer than three minutes, ‘representing the essence of their ethical and innovative vision, and a brief description of their brand as well as the bio of the designer’.

The sustainable brands will be adjudicated by an esteemed judging panel comprised of some of the best in the business including Sara Sozzani Maino, Head of Vogue Talents and Deputy Director of Vogue Italia and Federica Nardoni Spinetta, President and Founder of the Chambre Monégasque de la Mode and Monte-Carlo Fashion Week.

The winner will have their eco-friendly collection on display during the official calendar of MCFW and exposure on its website and social media. A runner up and third place winner will also be chosen and receive promotion of their brand on the Fashion Week communication outlets!

To enter this contest, clips should be sent to by 15 April. Results will be announced on 18th May!

Last year’s Sustainability Contest was won by brand Desserto with their cactus vegan leather bag. Business partners Adrian and Marte cut the mature leaves of a cactus plant to make their ‘leather’ handbags. The plant-based material causes much less harm to the environment than traditional cow’s leather, which demands an enormous amount of water throughout the process and is not biodegradable. Meanwhile, traditional faux leather is derived from fossil fuel, meaning it is not a sustainable option either. The designer duo from Mexico will also be part of this year’s judging panel.

The MCFW slogan #sustainabletogether is being realised across the world and Monaco's Fashion Week is giving it one of the most prestigious runways to share with the best-known names in fashion. We can’t wait to see the winning brand’s designs!
