Nice's May Festival Returns Virtually for 2021
The May Festival in Nice will be online this year, showcasing local folk artists, traditional craft activities and one in-person exhibition!
Every year, the people of Nice celebrate the arrival of spring during the May Festival. Throughout the month of May, the City of Nice honours local traditions and folklore associations in Nice. Due to the pandemic, the City of Nice is offering a 'Virtual May Day Ball' with original content to discover from May 1 on fetedesmai.nice.fr, including a drawing, 'La Farandole', created by the association 'Les Niçois d'Adèle', the history of May Day, photos from previous years, Niçois recipes, resources for puppet making and colouring, puzzles, a culinary quiz, a quiz on May Day and more...
In a show of the City of Nice's support for participants in the Niçois tradition and live entertainment, Mayor Christian Estrosi and his Secretary for Niçois Identity, Jean-Luc Gagliolo, wanted to broadcast folk concerts recorded especially for the festival to the people of Nice, with the help of the association Lou Cat. From May 7 on fetedesmai.nice.fr and YouTube, you can watch pre-recorded live performances from Badin Badan, La Tremoulina, Les Ptites ouvreuses, Lo Cepon, Lu Barbalucou, Lu Musicant de la countea, Lu Ribaire, Mar et mountagnos, Pistou Connection and Zine.
In addition to the wealth of online content, the people of Nice will be able to visit an exhibition of the bust of the Queen of the 2020 Carnival, 'La Niçoise', during a walk through the gardens of the Cimiez Arena from 1-30 May, as well as traditional costumes graciously lent by La Ciamada Nissarda every Sunday in May from 9am-6pm.
