Riviera under shock April snowfall

After a week of sun and mostly warm temperatures, you could be forgiven for thinking summer had arrived - until this morning.

Rain was expected today, but residents on the Riviera were shocked by pockets of snow on the first Wednesday of April. People awoke to snow from Grasse to Vence.


Videos of the flurries have appeared across social media. Here are the conditions in Falicon, near the Italian border:

The chilly temperatures can be explained by cold air at high altitudes combined with humidity.

Most of the Riviera is under light rainfall this morning, and freak episodes of snow will be over by mid afternoon, when the sun we have been enjoying will return and remain right through to Friday!
