Stargaze and learn about space at the new Nice Observatory
How about something out of this world? Explore the universe at the newly remodelled Observatory and Universarium!
The 3rd rock from the sun: Earth is only a small part of our vast universe and now you can learn all about our place in the Milky Way. Head to the newly remodelled Observatory perched above Nice to learn about our solar system and get a great view of the sky from their massive telescope.
Built more than 130 years ago, the Nice Observatory has a collection of antique instruments on display in the Planetarium. The famous dome with a breath-taking view of the Baie des Anges was built by Gustave Eiffel (of the Eiffel Tower) and the other buildings on the property were built by Charles Garnier (of the gorgeous Opera Garnier in Paris). The site has just finished a complete renovation and now offers fascinating guided tours of the observatory and the greater property.
The ‘Universarium’ has interactive activities for young and old to learn about our solar system from the Big Bang to the future of space travel. Think Jeff Bezos had a good view of space? Think again! With this telescope you can see farther than that rocket fuelled by the demise of independent bookshops could ever get to.
The Observatory is a vast property in the hills above Nice so they offer two separate tours, for those with vehicles or for thos on public transport. Public tours are all in French, but you can book a private tour in English by registering online under “Groupe adultes”.
Rates: 12€/adult - 6€/student and child (free under 6) - 10€/senior
The Observatory is also included in the French Riviera pass.
