The 1st B.I.G. Challenge start-up event was a BIG success!
Organised by our own Mediacorp, the 2-day business networking and start-up bootcamp in Cannes was not only a success, it was a blast.
Bringing together three historic events (BA06 event, Get In The Ring and Startup Factory) in one place, promoting the economic recovery of our region, bringing together the local innovation ecosystem, giving a voice and showing the way to young innovative start-ups, bringing together start-ups, investors, accelerators, major groups and principals around qualified meetings... These were the objectives of the first edition of the Business Innovative Global Challenge, which took place at the Bastide Rouge Campus in Cannes on September 16 and 17.
An eagerly awaited event that was well attended and lived up to its promise, as shown by the key figures for these two days of business:
34 innovative companies present
18 participants in the Elevator Pitch competition
10 competitors in the battle for Get In The Ring
300 pre-programmed meetings
More than 300 people attended the START (our sister publication) evening party
60 participants in the Team Building Cinema Experienz and Team Training Escape Game
BA06 event, talent in force!
The B.I.G Challenge has just closed its very first edition, but BA06 Event was already at its 11th. And it is always with as much interest and enthusiasm that the 34 innovative companies coming from the Alpes-Maritimes, the Var and Monaco took part in the 300 "speed dating" businesses in search of customers, support, investors or more visibility.
The companies present:
Akidaia, Altgency, AMKbiotech, ArtForNess, Carloapp, Chepakee, Code Equilibre, Cyclesium, Dark Lime, d-Potentiels, Fair Vision, Fairtual technologies, FGWRS, FISAM Pineappli, Hoopiz, Influlook Hashtag, Karroad, Kyouyu Kitchen, L'Aleph, La dernière fournée, Malaxi Studio, Mootion, Mukei, People In, RZball Company, Proximus, Synantoo, TalentCoin, Tendance locale, Thinkeo, Videtics, Vizua, Weavup, Yunova
Alongside the business meetings, the Elevator Pitch was held, a complex and dreaded but extremely instructive exercise during which the participants had 90 seconds to present their company, their ambitions and their needs. 5 entrepreneurs, including 3 women, distinguished themselves in this "little contest" and received trophies designed by SoFAB by Telecom Valley. The following trophies were awarded:
Best pitch: Aïda Meghraoui-Keddar from AMK Biotech
Principal Trophy: Ilda Coppa of d-Potentiels
Expert Supporter: Thibault Villette of Proximus
Investors' Trophy: Alan Ferbach of Videtics
Bastide Rouge "Coup de Coeur" prize: Sybille Sanchez for Mootion
All the innovative companies entered in the pitch competition participated in video coaching sessions before the event and a final rehearsal session on the big day.
Get in The Ring - And the winner is... Videtics!
For this 8th edition in France, the two Dutch co-founders of Get In The Ring, Hendrik Halbe and Jochem Cuppen, came to play referees in the middle of the ring. This was the first in-person Get In The Ring event in almost 2 years!
While Hoopiz and Dark Lime lost in the semi-finals after 5 rounds of 30 seconds each, it was Pierre-Alexis Le Borgne, co-founder of Videtics, who won the final against Alexis Langlade for The Last Batch. With his mischievous smile, his boundless energy, his well-placed punchlines and his Artificial Intelligence video analysis tools for the worlds of security and safety, Pierre-Alexis put on a great show and won the unanimous approval of the audience and the jury.
A START soirée of chilling and discovering local products
Thursday evening, after a long day of intense business pitches and training, everyone could unwind at the business shin-dig for our Côte d'Azur start-up magazine "Start". Over 300 people attended, milling around 18 stands selling local products, from Monaco gin to sweets from Confiserie Florian. There was even a little Prosecco truck! The START soirée allowed everyone to continue the day's discussions and share a drink with delicacies.
Quiet on the set... Action!
While Thursday 16 September was a day for business meetings, Friday was dedicated to team building with new and unforgettable experiences. 7 teams in the morning, 11 in the afternoon and two practical exercises, the first of which was the making of a two-minute film with the teams of the Cannes-based company Adastra Films. Distribution of roles, writing of the script, shooting with costumes and props, and a good dose of laughter that resounded here and there throughout the creative campus. It must be said that the stakes were high, apart from the good time spent as a team, it was not the Palme d'Or but the Bastide d'Or that everyone hoped to win.
7 prizes were awarded:
Randstad: Best Film Award for its silent film
Novelliance: Best Director Award for Mission Impossible
DataCorp and People In: Best Actor Award for
Univet: Audience Award ex aequo for Star Wars and Rocky
Proxidea: Best actress group award for Bollywood Dancers
SFR: Best screenplay for James Bond with Rien que pour vos yeux
In the afternoon, Iris Développement hosted the escape game and the teams' difficult mission: to solve a crime scene in just one hour. With a debriefing by Marielle Buteau, founder of Iris Développement, regarding the observations made during this hour of play.
French Acoustics takes first place in the Startup Factory
At the end of the B.I.G. Challenge, the 'Startup Factory' of Sophia Business Angels brought together 7 startups from the Côte d'Azur and Var to compete in front of an audience of investors. A great platform for startups in the seedling phase, they each had three minutes to clearly present their project, their vision and their market. French Acoustics took first place on the podium ahead of Holivia, second, and Aquabiomass and Objeos, who tied for third.
The B.I.G Challenge received the support of the city of Cannes, the Agglomération Cannes Pays de Lerins, the Campus Cannes Bastide Rouge and the Université Nice Côte d'Azur for the organisation of these two days and evenings of economic revival.
We can't wait until next year...
