The OVNi Festival: Objectif Vidéo Nice, back for its 7th edition
The experimental video arts festival returns to Nice, this year adding new venues in and around the capital of the French Riviera.
The Objective Video Nice (OVNi – a play on the French term for UFO) explores multiple forms of video art. With a general mood that questions concepts of the self, the events will be happening throughout Nice between 20 November and 5 December. As usual, the settings will be out of the ordinary, with exhibitions taking place in museum galleries, hotel rooms, provide properties and libraries.
Conceived at the Windsor Hotel in 2015, this event at the confluence of the artistic and hotel worlds was imagined as an original and innovative platform dedicated to the promotion of video art. Every year from the end of November, it brings together multiple artistic actors to allow the public to discover emerging video artists and to rediscover more established video artists. Their work is thus highlighted through a tour of the city that includes museums, cultural spaces and unusual places, as well as a tour of Nice hotels where art in motion is invited into the privacy of the rooms...
Last year, the 6th edition was confined to the Windsor Hotel where video creations projected from inside the rooms were visible from the windows from the street. This year, nearly 25 hotels, museums and other establishments in Nice are opening their doors to welcome art lovers and the curious. Muriel Mayette-Holtz, director of the Théâtre National de Nice, is the patron of the OVNi 2021 Festival, whose title is "A lion in my room". Inspired by Allen Ginsberg's poem (The lion for real - 1958), it announces all the artistic energy that will be deployed in the hotels, museums and other places along the route. The artist ORLAN, an icon of French contemporary art, also joins this beautiful edition as a guest of honour.
Punctuated by major events and highlights, the 2021 edition of the OVNi Festival will unfold in 2 artistic routes:
OVNi in the city - from 20 November to 5 December 2021: an art trail proposed by various cultural and unusual places.
OVNi in the hotel - from 3 to 5 December 2021: artists who invite themselves into the intimacy of the rooms of five Nice hotels.

OVNi tour in the hotel
from 3 to 5 December 2021
OVNi at the hotel is conceived as a project of "artistic hospitality". Five establishments in Nice are joining forces in the name of art and opening their doors to the public. For a weekend, they invite French and international artists to take over the intimacy of the rooms and common areas to host contemporary video works.
The Hotel Windsor hosts the Rencontres OVNi, a selection of videos presented by the FICEP and some friends of OVNi, collectors, OPLINE Prize, artists in residence at the Windsor Hotel in the previous year. The best video will be awarded the Grand OVNi Prize supported by CHE. In the rooms of the West End Hotel and the fitness room of the Splendid Hotel, several young video artists from the Southern Region have been selected to present an original programme. The Prix Sud Emergence, supported by CECAZ, will be awarded to the best video by a jury chaired by ORLAN.
