The shop of the future: Debuing in Cannes for the MAPIC show

Imagine walking into a store, selecting clothes on a screen, exchanging sizes within the fitting room, and checking-out on the spot. It's coming.

Like many other sectors, retail has been turned upside down by the pandemic and the acceleration of the digital transition that it has triggered. The retail development market, MAPIC, which takes place in Cannes from Tuesday 30 November to Thursday 2 December, both in person at the Palais des Festivals and digitally, has been closely following these technological developments. One of the highlights of this edition will also be the preview of a new futuristic shop, utilising the best of a 'phygital' experience. This showcase shop is the result of the partnership between Etam and Retail Reload, which brings together the best of tomorrow's technologies.

Etam will transform its stand into a real omnichannel pop-up store in which participants will be able to do their shopping, just like in a normal shop. A world first, this 40 m² pop-up stand will allow participants to experience live the Easy shopping RFID customer experience developed by Retail Reload:

  • Consult the stock available in the shop on screen (the stock is updated in real time: items being tried on, and therefore temporarily unavailable, do not appear)

  • Order on the Etam website and pick up your order by Click & Collect on the stand within the hour (the order is prepared on site)

  • Mobile checkout payment

  • A smart fitting room with automatic reading of the items tried on (RFID detection), exchange service or complementary try-on without leaving the room (try & change) and recommendations adapted to the stock available in the shop

Director of MAPIC, Nathalie Depetro, said: "More than ever, innovation and technology at the service of the customer experience are driving MAPIC. Our participants will thus be able to experience new digital customer experiences in a concrete way and integrate them into their future retail outlets." And she reminds us that "the omnic transformation is at the heart of the strategies of the retail players".
