United Airlines announces daily New York - Nice flights

With travel plans getting back to normal, United has launched its biggest expansion yet, adding daily flights to the Côte d'Azur from next spring.

In United Airlines' largest transatlantic expansions in company history, the American carrier announced on 14 October a series of new direct flights across the world. This includes ten new flights and five new, 'vogue' destinations: Amman, Jordan; Bergen, Norway; Azores, Portugal; Palma de Mallorca, Spain and Tenerife in the Spanish Canary Islands. This was a well-studied move, as all of the new routes, which are set to begin in Spring 2022, are not served by any other North American carrier.

"Given our big expectations for a rebound in travel to Europe for summer, this is the right time to leverage our leading global network in new, exciting ways," said Patrick Quayle, senior vice president of international network and alliances at United. "Our expansion offers the widest range of destinations to discover – introducing new, trendy locales that our customers will love, as well as adding more flights to iconic, popular cities."

Next year, United Airlines will fly to five new popular European destinations: Berlin, Dublin, Milan, Munich and Rome. The new route to Nice Côte d'Azur was actually announced in 2019, for service to begin in Summer 2020 -- which was cancelled due to the pandemic. Now, United has re-launched the route, adding some competition to the three other carriers that offer direct service to Newark/New York: Delta Airlines, Air France and La Compagnie (all business class). United's new seasonal route will begin on 30 April 2022 and continue through to the end of September. This daily non-stop service will be operated by a B767-300 premium aircraft (46 business seats, 22 Premium Plus seats, 47 Economy Plus seats and 52 Economy seats).
