Women & Heritage: Monaco hosts the 1st Journée du Matrimoine
European Heritage Days continue in Monaco this weekend with the very first edition of the Matrimoine Day: a special focus on the women who made a difference.
This Sunday, 26 September, Monaco will celebrate the 26th European Heritage Days - the Journées Européennes du Patrimoine. The special feature this year: for the first time, the focus will be on women and their achievements, with a clever letter swap: Journée du Matrimoine. A total of 40 locations in the Principality will open their doors to visitors either for free or at a reduced rate to showcase the contributions of women to the historical, artistic and social heritage of the principality.
Princess Grace Irish Library
The Princess Grace Irish Library is located on Le Rocher, on the first floor of a hundred-year-old historical building, the former residence of Count Félix Gastaldi (1821-1906). The heart of the library is the personal collection of H.S.H. Princess Grace; a collection of books by Irish writers, paintings, musical scores, historical documents and Irish art. It also consists of art treasures and literary masterpieces, with a superb collection of photographs of official visits by the Princely family. A Children's Library is also available for families.

The Rose Garden
The Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Women's Rights is organising an exhibition entitled "Remarkable Women in Monegasque History" at the Rose Garden (Roseraie Princesse Grace). Fifteen women from the Principality who have contributed to the development of the position of women in society and to equality (the Princesses Louise-Hippolyte, Charlotte, Anne-Marie Campora...) or who have established a link with Monaco in various fields (Colette, Josephine Baker, Suzanne Lenglen...) will be presented.
Open: 10 am - 5 pm: free visit to the exhibition
From 11.30 a.m: concerts with exclusively female musicians.
Located in an exceptional natural setting between Menton and Monaco, this emblematic architectural complex, built at the beginning of the 20th century, by Eileen Gray, an Irish pioneer of the Modern architectural movement. Built as a private getaway bungalow, the innovative structure was painstakingly designed and built by Gray between 1926 and 1929 as both a holiday resort and an experiment in new architecture. Recently renovated to its original state, it offers a panoramic view of the Mediterranean coastline.
